At the Birdwalk

Today (Nov 5th) I was working on the BirdWalk at Myakka River SP. There were about. 2,000 Blue-winged Teal, 15 Northern Pintail, a few Green-winged Teal, Northern Shovelers, Dowitchers, Least Sandpipers, 31 Black-necked Stilts and too many Yellowlegs (both kinds) to count. I also observed three Wilson's Snipe, flybys of three eagles( harassing Osprey) a female, juvy and male Northern Harrier, Swamp and Savannah Sparrows and one Eastern Phoebe. The highlight of the day was a Great Blue-Heron wrestling with a five-foot Cottonmouth and finally killing it and swallowing it in front of 30 appreciative park visitors!!!  Good Birding,  Rick Greenspun
